This
piece appears to have
been converted from a
pottery jar to a
plant pot. Excellent
top border portrayal
of elephants. There
is a hole drilled in
the bottom that was
not originally
intended to be there.
This does not take
away from the beauty
of this piece
whatsoever. As far as
the condition, there
is crazing and
cracking apparent but
not major. The pot
can be used for
decorative purposes
or be using in
conjunction with
plants. Size is

The
quality of this quilt
is magnificent. The
stitching is very
well done and the
creativity is
fantastic. If you
look at the side of
the quilt that has
the blue, one of the
lighter patch squares
looks as though that
portion of the quilt
is ripped and torn.
But in fact its not,
look closely you will
see that the fabric
is sewn that way with
the cotton showing.
Also, the blue side
of the quilt is
decorated with small
white flowers. The
other side of the
quilt is a mixture of
many colors such as:
red, green, blue,
white, yellow, light
brown, etc. The
entire quilt is in
good condition except
for the normal age
and wear. Approx.

Now,
this painting is the
pinnacle of whimsy!
This one looks as if
it rolled right off

A
truly bizarre little
mixed media piece
depicting Christ (?)

sort. Unfortunately,
the exact provenance

unknown, but it was
obviously created by

visually successful.

This

folk art piece that
is at least one
century old. It
depicts a saint, or a
holy man, holding his
cherished rosary
beads in his slender
hand. The provenance
for this iconic
painting has,
unfortunately, been
lost. However, if you
know anything about
it, we'd love to hear
from you. Perhaps the
strangest thing about
this very strange
painting is what
appears to be a
Chinese character
situated in the lower
center of the
composition. We
personally love this
piece, but it is in
fair condition, with
some flaking on the
surface plane, due
largely to its age
and medium (painting

passionate work of
art. Framed (wood).

This
is a beautiful work
of art. A little boy
in his suit and ruff,
sitting still while
his portrait is
painted. The colors
and brush techniques
employed in this
piece are magnificent
and could possibly
belong to the Newport
(Indiana) school of
painting. The subject
could even be the
child of one of the
Robber Barons of that
era. A painting such

Treat yourself to a

Own
a fantastic original
drawing from an
artist of renowned
talent! This colored
pencil sketch depicts
a couple of
vacationers "hard at
work" on the beach.
This drawing may have
been started life as
a fast study, but we
think you'll agree
that there was
absolutely no
compromising on the
skill employed, or
the quality. A nice
wall piece for your
vacation home, or for
those times in "the
real world" when you
wish you were there.
Be good to yourself
and remember what
you're working for.
Freda Leibovitz
Reiter (1919 - 1986)
graduated from the
Pennsylvania Academy
of Fine Arts in the
1930's, then studied
under Diego Rivera in
Mexico City. She then
sketched WWII
soldiers for the USO

Inquirer newspaper as

Philadelphia and New
Jersey. She also
taught art privately
and in public
schools, as well as
various other honors

A
somewhat iconic print
of Mary and the baby
Jesus encircled by a
border of colorful
flowers. 800 years
ago Christians were
being captured and
sold into slavery by
the thousands, and
nobody knew what to
do about it. St. John
of Matha founded the
Trinitarians to go to
the slave markets,
buy the Christian
slaves and set them
free. To carry out
this plan, the
Trinitarians needed
large amounts of
money. So, they
placed their
fund-raising efforts
under the patronage
of Mary. They were so
successful at that,
over the centuries,
the Trinitarians were
able to free
thousands and
thousands of people
and to return them
safely home. In
gratitude for her
miraculous
assistance, St. John
of Matha honored Mary
with the title of
"Our Lady of Good
Remedy." Devotion to
Mary under this
ancient title is
widely known in
Europe and Latin
America, and the
Church celebrates her
feast day on October
8. Our Lady of Good
Remedy is often
depicted as the
Virgin Mary handing a
bag of money to St.
John of Matha. When
in need - for
whatever reason, but
especially where you
have had difficulty
obtaining help -
invoke the aid of Our
Lady of Good Remedy,
and you will surely
experience the power
of her intercession.
The print is in fair
condition with some
age and wear. It is
in a wooden frame
(gilded) that does
have some nicks and
scratches. “N.D. DE
BON SECOURS,” and “N.
SEN. SEL SOCORRO,”
along with the phrase
“Our Lady of Good
Help.” are printed on
the bottom. Approx.

extremely surreal

Susan Sturgill
Columbus, Ohio, •

Printmaker, This
signed, limited
edition print is
titled "Dragon
Castle" (to
distinguish it from
the other three in
the castle series).
It is from the late
70's. We do not have
or know the titles of
the other three
companion prints. To
quote the artist
herself' "Looks like
it's still in the
original mat, too. I
can't believe it's
held up so well."
Susan Sturgill has
been drawing all her
life. Her
professional training
began at Rhode Island
School of Design in
Providence where she
majored in graphic
design and
illustration. She has
also taken classes at
the Cleveland
Institute and our
very own Columbus
College of Art and
Design (where she
studied both etching
and computer
graphics). Ms
Sturgill started as a
freelance illustrator
in 1975. Since then
her work has appeared
in obscure
publications, on
college textbook
covers, calendars and
book-related
products. She also
has to her credit,
some 20 jigsaw puzzle
designs and a
decorated life-size
fiberglass horse for
Lexington KY. Her
etchings and drawings
are shown at art
festivals around the
Midwest. You may have
noticed a brown Astro
with funky decoration
around town. That’s
her "Art Car." She
published two books
with small presses
(The Frog Prince in
1976 and Animal Fair
in 1983 - (both now
out of print)) which
she says gave her the
big idea that she
could do it herself.
She became "The
Laughing Academy
Press" in 1988 and
has three titles
currently in
print.

What
a magnificent
opportunity for the
advanced restorer!
Try your hand--it
definitely needs some
work, but the rewards
and potential are
immense. It was
purchased at an
estate sale at
Garth's in Delaware,
Ohio--so, if anyone
knows a D. Morgan, it
may have even more
added value. The size
of this painting is a
plus--it dominates
any room it resides
in. The overall tone
is dark, and somewhat
muted, however, this
works very
successfully in
collaboration with
the general demeanor
of the subject.
Microscopic attention
to detail, and a lot
of care, went into
features such as the
latticework collar of
the dress and the
accompanying brooch.
The brushwork used on
this piece is soft
and delicate--nearly
invisible. On the
back is written: "D.
Morgan 1871". What is
unknown is whether D.
Morgan was the artist
or the subject. What
is known is that this
painting serves as a
wonderful time
capsule for a
glorious past. There
is some tearing here
and there on the
canvas, but the
overall surface plane
appears to have
survived its journey
intact. Recently
re-stretched canvas
is in its original
oak frame (the frame
is gorgeous and we
cannot think of
another one this
painting would look
remotely as good in).
A wonderful
acquisition for any
collector. Overall

This muted study depicts a
young girl posing dutifully
for the artist's pencil.
The girl is dressed in mid
twentieth-century European
dress and appears to be
absorbed by melancholy (or
perhaps it's just boredom
from having to sit still
for so long). The
composition makes excellent
use of the white space
surrounding the
subject--incorporating it
somehow into the overall
design until it becomes
nearly as integral to the
success of the entire work
as is the portrait itself.
A nice purchase for anyone
who appreciates a fine line
drawing--this print
definitely falls into that
category. Information
available on the artist
suggests that he was a
prominent Florentine
portraitist, who was active
during the middle of the
twentieth century (ab.
1945). He is known to have
painted some military
portraits during World War
II, and many of his pieces
have been displayed in
various galleries

Mitchell,
American Seascape
Clipper Ship, (facing

on canvas
professionally
framed, with the same
detail as the
originals. In this
tradition of ship
portraiture, a vessel
is presented in a
broadside view,
accurately detailed.
Mitchell's paintings
are a good example of
this art form: the
full sails, streaming
flags, and the prow
slicing through the
water illustrate the
speed of the
record-breaking
clipper ships. Its
arrival into port
seems victorious.
Mid-19th century
portraits paid homage
to evolving
engineering that
enabled faster
travel, and signified
human triumph over
nature. This giclee

Acrylic on
canvas. A well
executed work in the
fashion and style of
the famous Jackson
Pollack - American
expressionist. In
keeping with this
“drip and splash”
style of painting,
the design of this
artists painting has
no relation to the
shape or size of the
canvas, It avoids any
points of emphasis or
identifiable parts
within the whole
canvas and therefore
abandons the
traditional idea of
composition in terms
of relations among
parts. Wow !, I have
just described "A
Pollack" This art has
no signature or
title, so who knows?
could it be...
Measuring 24.75 by
33.75 inches in a
rather simple rustic
frame, ready to hang
in your home. You may

what ever you like
about this painting,
we'll never

Mitchell,
American Seascape
Clipper Ship, (facing
left) a giclee print
on canvas
professionally
framed, with the same
detail as the
originals. In this
tradition of ship
portraiture, a vessel
is presented in a
broadside view,
accurately detailed.
Mitchell's paintings
are a good example of
this art form: the
full sails, streaming
flags, and the prow
slicing through the
water illustrate the
speed of the
record-breaking
clipper ships. Its
arrival into port
seems victorious.
Mid-19th century
portraits paid homage
to evolving
engineering that
enabled faster
travel, and signified
human triumph over
nature. This giclee
print on canvas would
go well with it's
companion piece, (

hanging in your
library. This piece
measures 21.5 by 25.5
inches
overall.
