Color Engraving Le Billet Doux - c. 18th Century, France

Description;
Color engraving after N. Lavreince by N. De Launay. Extensive text in French (see photos). Nicolas de Launay (1739-1792) was an 18th Century Paris-born engraver. This particular engraving, Le Billet Doux, is famous for it's faithful depiction of a Louis XVI, 18th Century interior.

Limited Edition Jhon Clymer litho (1967) Lewis & Clark color litho

Description;
John F. Clymer (1907-19--) I llustrator.-Historically accurate artist of Western scenes and wildlife. A student at the Howard Pyle School in Wilmington, Delaware, He was strongly influenced by N.C. Wyeth in illustration. He became a noted painter of animals and western history.  Among his first illustrations some were for Canadian publications. He also illustrated for pulp magazines and novels, which led to assignments with American magazines and advertising companies.  He did a series of historic paintings about the United States Marine Corps during World War II. In 1947 he did a cover for the Saturday Evening Post of the New Milford Green. He designed a commemorative coin of John and Sarah Noble for the 250th anniversary.

The back has had repairs to the canvas ( see photo) Although the signatures are not the same, It appears to be the same hand in these paintings. As described in the double painting although it is not a photo realistic painting it is extremely detailed, and you can see the dew on the flower petals. The backgrounds are very dark, I think it was intentional to bring out the colors of the flowers.
